Org. Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations systems designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP's Division of Environmental Policy Implementation (DEPI) works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and advisory services for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. This post is located in UNEP/DEPI at the Kingston duty station. Under the supervision of the Programme officer, the incumbent will carry out the following duties:

 

Responsibilities   

Administration:

1. Monitor server and application for disruptions and downtimes;

Supervise  maintenance of computer servers, workstations, peripheral devices, Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) systems and software for configuration, cleaning and repairs;

Arrange daily backups and storage of system and network files;

Monitor security vulnerabilities in the Windows Desktop and Office environment, to apply requisite patches.

2. Provide help desk services for staff, coordinating troubleshooting of computers and printers and of scanners, software applications and problems with

remote access;

Provide technical support for database systems - Focal Point database, Travel Forecast, Project Matrix, CDS-ISIS (electronic library system);

Provide e-mail support, create new accounts, liaise with service provider, maintenance of email software and resetting of passwords;

Provide information technology support to Caribbean Environment Programme (CEP) Intergovernmental and Technical meetings;

focal point for headquarters IT projects as installation of Lotus Notes.

3. Ensure continuity and modernity of Caribbean Regional Coordination Unit (CAR-RCU) Local Area Network and Database

Systems:

Revise and update both End-User and Internal IT Focal Point Instruction Manuals;

Update and maintain an inventory of the computer hardware, software and peripheral devices;

Provide recommendations to supervisor for hardware, software and other upgrades or new acquisitions for CAR/RCU and confirm proper delivery of items received.

4. Website maintenance and development:

Assist in maintenance of UNEP/CAR-RCU website, coordinate the updating of content and design and monitor for potential problems;

Provide support to CEP Partners and the Regional Activity Centres (RAC) hosting pages on the CEP website server;

Assist in the development and maintenance of Clearinghouse Mechanisms;

Liaise with service provider(s) in charge of revamped web design, and reporting to CAR-RCU CETA on status.

5. Perform any other assigned.

Installation of Lotus Notes; website maintenance and development; and monitoring applications such as virtualization software, replication software backup, Windows 2008, McAfee.

 

Education

Completion of secondary school is required. Supplementary training in information management systems or related field is required.

 

Work Experience

A minimum of six years of progressive responsible experience in information management systems or related field is required. Experience at the international level desirable.

 

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Remuneration: 

G6 Step 1 Jamaican Dollars 2,182,745.00 gross per annum changing subject to satisfactory service in accordance with the schedule of increments, set out in the staff regulations and Staff Rules.
