Under UNEP internship, I have been assigned the job of assisting Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) in supervision of EU Climate Change Project. I am supposed to develop a methodology for rapid assessment of knowledge, attitude and practices of communities which are vulnerable to climate change. In first three weeks of internship, I did a lot of reading to get familiar with the project and to research for the relevant methodology ideas for assessment.

I was surprised to find that there is not much scholarly literature on this topic, but I finally succeeded in finding out a relevant methodology developed by International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. It was exciting to read through the work done by Red Cross Society using the methodology and now, my plan is to customize the methodology as per the needs of EU Climate Change Project. The documents related to the project were very helpful in getting a context for customization. I am excited to discuss the idea with my colleagues and gather their feedback. I have plans to arrange a training session for the officials who will be conducting the assessment along with me. During second week of internship, I manned a booth at a Climate Change Conference. It was a great experience. I got a chance to interact with many reputed professionals and to share ideas with them. I am looking forward to interact with the local communities in the next upcoming phase of my internship.

Lessons that I learnt so far: To document my thoughts on the readings as I progress

Challenges that I faced so far: To use scholarly literature review in order to show the relevance of the chosen methodology
