This first week was short (only three days) but busy.
Many SPAW brochures are available in English but more French and Spanish translations are needed. Thanks to my French skills, I was able to translate for Christine O’Sullivan (Programme Assistant SPAW) two brochures from English to French (the CaMPAM brochure and the Wonders of the Sea brochure).
SPAW has its own shelves at the UNEP-CEP library, but brochures, books and other documents accumulated during the past years and some of them became obsolete. I was asked by Christine to update the SPAW list of brochures, books and other documents so it can be decided which ones them are worth being kept. I also rearranged the shelves.
Challenges faced: Concerning the translation, I experienced some difficulty to translate the technical terms related to the environment. Concerning the updating of the SPAW list of brochures, books and other documents, it was sometimes difficult to take inventory when there were many copies of the same document.
Lessons learnt: I was reminded how to translate from English to French and learnt how to translate technical terms related to the environment.
