I am beginning the fourth month of a five month internship with CEP. One of the advantages of a longer internship is that I am now more familiar with the activities of the office and have been able to see some assignments through to completion as well as work on projects that are on a longer time frame.

One I have particularly enjoyed is editing and updating a document related to the Regional Action Plan on Marine Litter Management for the Wider Caribbean Region. It is interesting to see the progress made to manage land based sources of marine litter since the document was originally prepared in 2008.

Preparations are well underway for the COP and IGM meetings this December. CEP is the Secretariat for the meetings and is responsible for making all of the conference arrangements, providing invitations and notices to attendees and preparing the documents for the meetings. It is interesting to see all of the logistics involved in planning a conference of this scope.

Challenges Faced
The review and updating of Fact Sheets has been challenging because in many cases, the original source of the information is not cited. Thus, the statistical information is difficult to verify and requires more research.

Lessons Learned
Being physically present in the Caribbean and working has provided a more realistic view of how the countries work together and separately on environmental issues.
