UNEP CEP supports EU CARICOM Workshop on Environmental Negotiations

Mr. Christopher Corbin, a Programme Officer with the Secretariat to the Cartagena Convention, served as a resource person for the Caribbean Hub Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) Negotiation Skills Workshop. The workshop, which is a five day training for junior environmental negotiators, is being held in Basseterre, St Kitts from Monday 28th May – 1st June 2012.

The focus of the workshop is on Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) concerned with biodiversity, climate change and oceans management and is organized by the CARICOM Secretariat with support from the European Union, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Foundation for International Environmental Law and Development (FIELD) and under the Caribbean Hub Sub-Component Project for Capacity-Building Related to Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) in African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Countries.   As the only legally binding regional agreement contributing to both marine biodiversity protection and oceans governance of the Caribbean Sea, the Secretariat of the Cartagena Convention highlighted both issues and challenges for the country participants.
