Jamaica to ratify LBS Protocol

MONTEGO BAY, St James — The Second Global Land-Ocean Connections (GLOC-2) conference opened here yesterday with environment and climate change minister Robert Pickersgill declaring that Jamaica is far advanced in its plans to accede to the Pollution from Land-based Sources and Activities (LBS) protocol.

The protocol, which entered into force at the Cartagena Convention in October 2010, is a legally binding framework for addressing sources of pollution and the development of best management practices to prevent, reduce and control pollution in the wider Caribbean region — countries that border eastern Florida, the Straits of Florida, the Gulf of Mexico or the Caribbean Sea.
