IUCN develops tools for Tourism and Hotel Sectors to protect Biodiversity
IUCN recently completed a two year project on
Biodiversity in the Hotel Sector with a heavy focus on the
Caribbean. The following tools were generated:
- Siting and Design of Hotels and Resorts: Principles and Case Studies for Biodiversity Conservation. This report includes the Biodiversity principles for siting and design of hotels and resort, and a set of case studies from different eco-regions in the world. The report is available in print and electronically in English, French and Spanish.
- Biodiversity: My hotel in action. A guide to sustainable use of biological resources (Global and caribbean editionS). This report highlights what are the management practices for integrating biodiversity in hotel and resort’s operational areas. As a companion to the publication, we developed a comprehensive checklist for hotel managers to use in assessing their hotel’s performance and planning future actions and initiatives. The publications are available only electronically, in English, French and Spanish.
- BUILDING AND OPERATING BIODIVERSITY-FRIENDLY HOTELS. This is an overview brochure that summarises the key issues related to biodiversity in hotels and resorts and the tools developed as part of this project. The brochure is available in print and electronically in English.
