The West Indian Manatee

cb03.gif
The West Indian manatee lives in the warm coastal waters of the southern United States, Mexico, the Caribbean Islands, Central America, and the northeastern countries of South America including Venezuela and northern Brazil. Look at the map of world. You can discover where each type of manatee and dugong lives by finding the countries or the areas on the inserted map. Color each area as you read this book: find and label the areas on your map where the West Indian manatee is from and color them green,. The West Indian manatee, like the other species of manatee and dugong. Travels to different areas for the winter and the summer as water temperatures change. They often follow the same routes that their parents and grand parents did, and return to the same areas year after year. Manatees may travel up to five hundred miles each season. For example, some West Indian manatees spend the winter in southern Florida and the summer in Georgia. Can you find these places on your map and then trace this migratory route?
