International Conference on Biodiversity and Climate Change October 22-25

The International Conference on Biodiversity and Climate Change will take place from  October 22-25 ,2014  in Guadeloupe. The theme of the conference is "From Strategies to Action: Turning the Biodiversity and Climate Change Challenges in the EU Outermost Regions (ORs) and Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs) Into Opportunities”

The Conference will:
• Assess the implementation of the Message from Reunion Island 6 years after its adoption. The preparatory work in the form of a background paper will be useful as well for the mid-term report of the EU Biodiversity strategy and the preparatory meetings of the CBD COP12 i.e. WGRI-5, SBSTTA;
• Identify priorities taking into account the outcome of the UN SIDS Conference and the Aichi targets and the outcome of CBD COP12;
• Define and endorse a roadmap towards the creation of the BEST Facility for sustaining the EU's BEST initiative in order to promote the conservation of biodiversity and sustainable use of ecosystem services in EU ORs and OCTs, which will include support to local and regional actions on the ground.

This international conference  is organized by the European Commission, the CBD Secretariat, the French Government, Guadeloupe, OCTA, the BVI and IUCN.
