Wastewater Management

Domestic wastewater is the No. 1 point source of pollution entering the Caribbean Sea. Obligations under the LBS Protocol for wastewater are provided in ANNEX III to the Protocol.

The management of domestic wastewater is a priority focus for the AMEP sub-programme.

Activities include support to the Global Partnership for Nutrients Management (GPNM) and the Global Wastewater Initiative (GWI) of the GPA.

UNEP CEP is the regional executing agency for the GEF CReW Project which focuses on improving wastewater management in the Wider Caribbean Region.

Untreated sewage has negative impacts on human health.
